COPENHAGEN ON A BUDGET

Surf a Couch during WOMEX

One frequent comment in last year's WOMEX survey was that Copenhagen is a rather pricey place to visit. So, we've been asking ourselves: How can we make spending time in the Danish capital easier and more personal for you; music professionals from around the globe? We believe that CouchSurfing.org could be a good solution.

CouchSurfing is an international non-profit network that connects travellers with locals in over 230 countries and territories around the world. Since 2004, members have been using the system to come together for cultural exchange, friendship, and learning experiences. More...

First WOMEX 10 Showcases Revealed

WOMEX 10 - First WOMEX 10 Showcases Revealed With over 700 proposals to squeeze into a mere three dozen Showcase slots, the WOMEX Jury's work was cut out for them and many hours were spent discussing countless high quality proposals. Of course we cannot disclose the final selection without first offering our sincere thanks to the Showcase Samurai for devoting their precious time and effort to shaping this year's fresh and inspiring Showcase selection.

Once again we successfully worked together with Sonicbids' online listening platform to ease the selection process for the Jury. Samurai Peter Hvalkof, Roskilde Festival, says: "If we had no chance to listen to the stuff on Sonicbids before the Jury meeting, our job would be much harder, and it would not be fair to the artists."

WOMEX Veteran Sten Sandahl Dies

R. I. P. - WOMEX Veteran Sten Sandahl Dies In the early hours of June 30th 2010 Mr Sten Sandahl, after a heroic struggle with cancer, finally had to admit defeat and quietly passed on. How does one sum up a long life, what parting words best befits a sad farewell?

Sten spent most of his life in the service of music. He was also, from his early teens to his last months, an enthusiastic musician playing in a number of different constellations of Swedish jazz groups.
