Online Registration & Stand Booking Now Open

(Photo: Eric van Nieuwland) Online registration and stand booking for WOMEX 12 in Thessaloniki, Greece, from Wednesday, 17 to Sunday, 21 October has now started. Tickets are available for the full 5-day package only and give access to all WOMEX events - daytime and nighttime.

Daniela Teuber, WOMEX Director of Production, states: "We are very much looking forward to our first ever WOMEX edition in Southeastern Europe. Youssou Ndour Named Senegal's Culture Minister

Here come the top-5 results of the World Music Charts Europe (WMCE), a monthly poll taken by world music radio programmers in twenty-four European countries. This month, Bonga's HORA KOTA climbs up the chart from second to first position, and BBC Radio 3's WORLD ROUTES ON THE ROAD falls to number three.

Showcase Proposal Early Rate Ends 31 March

(Photo: Eric van Nieuwland) More Conference, Film and Showcase proposals for WOMEX 12 are coming in every day ahead of the final deadline on Friday, 13 April. The WOMEX Jury - otherwise known as the 7 Samurai - will work on the programme selection.

Get your Showcase proposal in early before Saturday, 31 March for a reduced application fee of 20 USD - after that the price goes up to 30 USD until the midnight deadline on Friday, 13 April. More...

Early Success of WOMEX's Sister Project

We are proud to announce the outstanding success of WOMEX's sister project, Classical:NEXT - within the first few weeks more than 300 delegates already registered for the first edition of this new annual event, dedicated to the future of classical music... And all the expo stands are sold out!

With such high demand from labels, distributors, media and music information centres, the Classical:NEXT team is already looking for a bigger trade fair area for next year, even before the first edition takes place.

For those who couldn't get stands this year, there is still a chance to register as a delegate and check out all the great live showcases.

Call for Proposals: Club Globalkan

(Photo: "Herceg Novi, Montenegro" by Bookish type on flickr, CC BY 2.0) WOMEX 12 Thessaloniki will be featuring an extra stage 'Club Globalkan' dedicated to Balkan music, presenting artists from Greece and the Southeastern European neighbourhood during the three WOMEX Festival nights.

The Club Globalkan stage is an initiative by WOMEX's local partners in Greece. It is supported by the Municipality of Thessaloniki and organised by Gaia Live.

The 7 Samurai of 2012

Every year WOMEX invites seven valued members of the WOMEX community to become Jury members. Also known as the 7 Samurai, these well-respected world music minds work on the Showcase and Conference selection.

In 2012, the WOMEX Jury will once again be split into two fields of responsibility: two Samurai are in charge of the Conference programming, while the other five are asked to shape the Showcase Festival.

The 5 Showcase Samurai are:

World Music from Wales and Flanders

(Photo: Gwyneth Glyn, courtesy of Cerdd Cymru : Music Wales) To celebrate WOMEX coming to Cardiff in October 2013, the Welsh Government in partnership with Cerdd Cymru : Music Wales, WOMEX, and the Flanders Music Centre would like to invite you to join them for an evening of music from Wales and Flanders on St David's Day, Thursday 1st March, the Welsh national day.

Three fabulous acts will be performing: Gwyneth Glyn and Megan Childs (Wales), The Naragonia Quartet (Flanders) and Fernhill (Wales) while Hefin Jones will be DJing between the performers.
